Known Issues¶
Known issues in Recall 2.6.x. Each item lists its status and (when available) a workaround.
Status key¶
- Investigating — reproduced but root cause not confirmed
- In Progress — fix is being worked on
- Fixed Next Release — fix is merged; shipping in the next release
- Workaround Available — use the workaround until a real fix ships
Current¶
Windows installer triggers SmartScreen¶
Status: Workaround Available
The Recall Windows installer isn't code-signed yet. SmartScreen shows "Windows protected your PC" on first run.
Workaround: Click More info → Run anyway the first time you run the installer.
Code signing is queued for a future release. See Roadmap.
macOS Automation prompt may not appear on first attempt¶
Status: Investigating
On some macOS setups, the Automation permission dialog doesn't appear automatically the first time Recall tries to reach Word. Until granted, Recall can't control Word.
Workaround: Gear menu → Settings → Word Integration → Request Word Permission to trigger the prompt explicitly. See Word Integration Setup — macOS.
Pin insertion count doesn't sync across windows¶
Status: Investigating
If you have multiple Recall windows open against the same matter (rare) and insert a pin, the insertionCount badge only updates on the window that did the insert until a refresh.
Workaround: Switch away from the matter and back, or restart Recall.
Custom GGUF embedders may produce poor search results¶
Status: By Design
Custom embedders selected via the custom models folder will load, but search quality depends on the model's training. Swapping in an arbitrary GGUF embedder (e.g. a non-legal generic one) often degrades ranking without obvious errors.
Recommendation: Stick with ModernBERT, E5, or all-MiniLM unless you have a specific reason to bring your own.
Download progress doesn't resume after app restart¶
Status: Investigating
If you close Recall mid-download, the next launch starts the download over from zero rather than resuming.
Workaround: Leave Recall open until the download completes.
Recently resolved¶
These items were fixed in a recent release.
Excessive background update polling¶
Resolved in 2.6.x. Earlier builds polled the update endpoint more often than needed. The frequency has been reduced; the banner still appears immediately when an update is available.
Auto-update could deadlock on Windows¶
Resolved in 2.6.x. A set of edge cases where an auto-update would fail to apply because of file locks on Windows has been resolved.
macOS black screen on older Macs (2015 MacBook Pro, Monterey)¶
Resolved in 2.6.x. A specific combination of older hardware and macOS Monterey produced a black screen at launch. Addressed by a Flutter rendering setting change. If you're still seeing it on older hardware, file a bug.
App icon and installer display names inconsistent¶
Resolved in 2.6.11. The installer display names for the Full and UI-Only builds now match the in-app icon and name.
