Recall 2.6 — Auto-updates land, polish everywhere

April 2026

The 2.6 series brings auto-updates out of development and into daily use, along with a long list of polish fixes across the UI.

What's new in 2.6.x:

  • Auto-updates are live. Recall checks for updates in the background. When an update is available, a banner appears; nothing downloads or installs without your confirmation. See Auto-Updates for the full behavior.
  • Separate Full and UI-Only update streams. Full and UI-Only installs update independently; you receive the kind of update that matches the installer you used, and delta patches keep downloads small.
  • Update stability fixes. Several edge cases that could cause an update to fail to apply on Windows are resolved.
  • Pin toolbar polish. Search-bar spacing and category dropdown styling got a full pass. Small visual things that add up.
  • App icon and installer names. Both Full and UI-Only installers now show consistent display names and icons matching the in-app branding.
  • macOS reliability. Several edge-case crashes at update-apply time on macOS are fixed.

Recall 2.x series — Clerk, pins, citations, and server mode come of age

Mid-2026 summary

The 2.x series built out the features that make Recall more than a document search tool.

Clerk AI. Clerk Edit (six rewrite styles: Lengthen, Shorten, Formalize, Simplify, Fix Grammar, Summarize) and Clerk Assist (Chat, Summarize, Explain, Research, Draft) landed as first-class sub-panels in Write mode. Parenthetical generation for pins hooked into the same generator.

Context-aware citations. Insert a pin and Recall picks the right form — full, short, or Id. — based on what you cited recently in Word.

In-document citation extraction. Every uploaded PDF gets scanned for citations after indexing. Full cases, short forms, Id./Ibid., supra, statutes, law review articles — all tagged, all with antecedent links for short and Id. forms.

Per-organization data isolation. Each organization on a Recall server now has fully isolated storage. Data from one organization is never visible to another.

Invite-gated registration. Server admins generate 7-day invite PINs; users register with a PIN. Registration without a valid PIN is rejected in server mode.

Notes. A matter-scoped WYSIWYG editor in the Write-mode right pane. One notes document per matter; saves automatically.

Under-the-hood modernization. Document and vector storage moved to a SQLite-backed architecture, and old data from earlier versions migrates automatically the first time you launch the new build.

Recall 1.1 — Windows, server mode, and team collaboration

February 2026

Recall 1.1 was the jump from a solo-macOS app to a cross-platform, multi-user product.

  • Windows support — full local install and UI-only install, same feature set.
  • Server mode — deploy Recall Core on-prem, connect with UI-Only clients.
  • Organizations — data isolation and shared-team workflows.
  • Connection Settings — switch between local and server modes from the UI.
  • Word integration improvements — macOS permission flow; Windows COM stabilization.
